Separating The Classes By The Medieval Clothing They Wear

Medieval metal armour and sword.People in the medieval age was separated according to class and the class that they belonged to was usually identified through the clothes that they wore. The noble families before wore their clothes according to the latest trends as well, such as the latest colors that was in style that time as well as the silk robes and the damask gowns that identifies the class they were in. Peasants on the other hand can only afford clothing made out of tunic. So if those kinds of clothing were to be what people still wear these days, you could just imagine how hot and uncomfortable it would be for you during the summer especially because those clothes are itchy, rough, and rather difficult to wash and then difficult to have them dried out as well. But people during those time depended upon their wealth as to which kind of clothing they will be able to buy. Which means that the richer families had comfortable clothes that are smooth as silk while the ones that are poorer are those that would have to wear the uncomfortable kind of materials for clothes.

It was due to the kings’ and the queens’ requests and influences as to why medieval clothes came about that way. Looking back at those times, it was as if the whole society and the head of the society was the one who had power over who could wear fine clothing and who should settle for the lesser ones.

The noble families even had the luxury of having clothes made only for themselves and they have the privilege to have a whole lot of them without having to worry about not affording them the next time. These families could afford the rarest materials that they could afford and they could couple it up with the most expensive jewelries in their kingdom, making it really very clear that they are indeed one of the noble families in their time. While the peasants on the other hand had to trade almost everything they had just to have the clothes on their backs, plus they don’t have the liberty to have someone else make their clothes for them so they had to make it themselves. Based purely upon the clothes that they were wearing, one could clearly differentiate a nobleperson from a peasant without trouble at all. It was very clear that the richer men were indeed not for one to keep a low profile during those times and on the other hand the poorer ones didn’t have much of a choice but to look the way they did.

But thankfully all of those has been changed and today people are free to wear whatever they want to. Please check out medievalclothing.com if you have questions.
